Shiv Sena
The Shiv Sena was founded on 19 June 1966 by Bal Thackeray as a Marathi-nationalist and Hindutva-aligned political movement based in Mumbai, going on to dominate Maharashtra politics for decades. In June 2022, a majority of the party's MLAs, led by Eknath Shinde, broke away from Uddhav Thackeray's leadership; in February 2023 the Election Commission of India recognised the Shinde faction as the legal continuation of the party, awarding it the "Shiv Sena" name and its "Bow and Arrow" symbol, while the Uddhav Thackeray faction continues as Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).
