Shiromani Akali Dal
The Shiromani Akali Dal was formed on 14 December 1920 as a task force of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), the Sikh religious body, to guide the Akali movement for control of Sikh gurdwaras. It became the principal political vehicle of the Sikh community in Punjab, leading the Punjabi Suba movement of the 1950s-60s that resulted in the formation of present-day Punjab in 1966. The party has led the Punjab state government multiple times under leaders such as Parkash Singh Badal. It was part of the NDA from 1998 until 26 September 2020, when it exited over the farm laws.
