Nationalist Congress Party
The Nationalist Congress Party was founded in 1999 by Sharad Pawar after splitting from the Indian National Congress. In July 2023, a majority faction led by his nephew Ajit Pawar broke away and joined the Mahayuti (BJP-Shiv Sena) government in Maharashtra; in February 2024 the Election Commission of India recognised the Ajit Pawar faction as the legal continuation of the party, awarding it the "Nationalist Congress Party" name and its "Clock" symbol, while the Sharad Pawar faction continues as Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar).
